Compiled by Ishtal?eschia B?achiia H?eleetaalawe “Squirrel That Walks Among The Pines” Mary Helen Medicine Horse. – Crow Agency, Montana: Bilingual Materials Development Center, 1987. XI, 168 p.This is the revised edition of A Dictionary of Everyday Crow, first published at BMDC in 1979, and what can be fairly referred to as a “living? dictionary. It is living in the sense that this edition is built on the previous one. It grows: New dictionary entries are easily added to it. It matures: As we become more knowledgeable about the structure of Crow words and about how the various categories relate to one another, we can make the necessary changes. It heals itself: When mistakes are found in one edition, they can be corrected so that the next edition will not contain them. It adjusts to its surroundings: As we become more aware of how the Crow people use the dictionary, and of the dictionary needs of the several institutions on the Crow Reservation, we can readily adjust to these and modify the dictionary toward making it more useful.
